Superior University Model United Nations 2018

The much awaited SUMUN’18, the first ever Model United Nations by Superior University finally took place from 23rd to 25th November 2018. The participating students enjoyed three days of enriching and fulfilling growth and development. The success of the event was contributed by several teams that showed outstanding commitment towards the duties assigned to them while planning the event under the supervision of Fatima Sadaf, the Patron and Waqar Malik Khokar, the General Secretary for SUMUN’18.  Team publications, Team External Relations and Team Digital Excellence collaborated and worked every inch towards delivering a remarkable event.

 

The starting of Day 1 SUMUN’18 kept the students engaged at the registration desk followed by the opening ceremony, commenced by Mehak Jamal, the Deputy Director Internationalization and Engagement office. The opening speech was followed by an address by the Celebrity Chief Guest Jawad Ahmad, who encouraged the efforts of Superior to host such an event and emphasized the role of youth towards the success of a Country.

 

Over the course of the three days Model United Nations, the participating delegates pushed their intellectual capabilities to debate over topics related to the issues faced by the world today. Each student delegation represented a country from the United Nations and spoke in its favor as if it were a real United Nations Conference. Five different Committees had heated debates over the assigned topics. The details are as follows:

 

1.Pakistan National Assembly debated over the Judicial System and need for reforms in Pakistan.

 

2.The Senate had heated debates over relationships with neighbor countries and problems of lower development areas:

A. Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs debated over ” Reviving Relations with India, Afghanistan, Iran and Russia

B. Standing Committee for lower developed areas debated over ” Problems of Lower Developed Areas”

C. Standing Committee for Human Rights debated over ” Human Rights violation in Baluchistan and Religious Minorities”

D. Standing Committee for Law and Justice debated over ” Judicial Reforms”

 

3.The United Nations Security Council had debates over Chaos in the Middle East over the following topics:

A. Raising the Impasses of Pakistan and India

B. The Chaos in the Middle East and its Way out

 

4.The United Nations Human Rights Council had debates over

A. Gender Violence

B. Protection of Human Rights while countering Terrorism.

 

5.United Nations General Assembly had debates over :

A. Saudi Iran Conflict

B. Creating and Maintaining Peace in Central African Republic

 

SUMUN’18 hosted 3 social events on all three days so that the participants take home fun filled and unforgettable memories.  On day 1, Mian Meer , the Famous Qawwal was invited to Shab e Zauq and the students/delegates were mesmerized by his qawalis. On day 2, Battle of the Bands was hosted, where students from Superior University were selected to perform and compete while the audience enjoyed the melodious and music filled evening. On day 3, after the prize distribution ceremony, the delicious formal dinner marked the end of the Superior University Model United Nations.

Students from several schools and universities became a part of SUMUN’18 and enjoyed a wholesome experience of debating, public speaking, critical analysis and evaluation, research, teamwork and socializing.
